Why the Most Popular Music Is Not Always the Best

I’m not sure why there needed to be research on this but I suppose having a study that demonstrates that the popularity is independent of the quality means something to musicians who make music that is considered to be avantgarde.

    Everyone’s view of “good” music is different. With so much content now, sometimes notoriety is more important than talent. But of course you’re more successful when there is both.

    Maybe marketing music as “avant garde” is the wrong message when trying to reach a mass market? A bad promotional word?
